#NaPoWriMo 2016 Challenge – Day 7

Todays challenge via NaPoWriMo Website is to write a tritina poem!

The tritina is a shorter cousin to the sestina, involving three, three-line stanzas, and a final concluding line. Three “end words” are used to conclude the lines of each stanza, in a set pattern of ABC, CAB, BCA, and all three end words appear together in the final line.

This is my attempt at a Tritina Poem – Happy reading!

“Dearest Ocean”

When I need a release, you make me feel free
As soon as I walk along your sand, I just be
Breathing in and out, a calm comes over me

As I listen to your majestic rythym, silently within me
It washes away any troubles, til I’m free
And makes me feel ready again, to be

I can’t explain the magic that happens, just to be
But it’s more powerful than anything-else, for me
A gift I accept without too much wonder, to feel free

But I thank-you “Dearest Ocean” for how you make me feel – renewed, & Free to Be Me.

#NaPoWriMo 2016 Challenge – Day 6

Todays challenge is to write a poem about Food… either a particular food, your relationship to food or an incident involving food!

Hope you enjoy my choice… And happy reading!

You may not be a food of sorts
But you’re functionally important to me
You fuel me from morning till night
Just a cup or two or even three.

When I am out, just socialising
You’re always there to hold
Warming my hands, forever so gently
So I never feel cold and alone.

You come in many varieties
Of which I’ll try a few
Your so creamy and delicious
Coffee, I’m addicted to your brew!

#NaPoWriMo 2016 Challenge – Day 5

Todays challenge via NaPoWriMo Website is to spend some time looking at the names of heirloom plants, and write a poem that takes its inspiration from, or incorporates the name of, one or more of these garden rarities.

I am not a gardener and so chose to write about some native plants to Australia!

Happy reading!

“The Woolly Bush, Banksia & Mallee Stump”

Brought together through fate

The three of you embody

Both the beauty & the harshness

Of the Australian landscape.

Making this arrangement

A unique & treasured picture

Captured for all time, to admire

Even after you return to Mother-nature.

“Bush Candles”

Dearest beautiful Banksia Bushes

You are quintessentially Australian

Known & loved for your brush-like flowers

That rise like candles in the bush.

Throughout our wide covered land

You bloom, in a variety of forms & colours

Drawing birds from near & far

For a sweet taste of your honey nectar.

#NaPoWriMo 2016 Challenge – Day 4

Todays challenge via NaPoWriMo Website is to write a poem in which you explore what you think is the cruelest month, and why.

Happy (or, if not happy, not-too-cruel) writing!

In his poem “The Wasteland,” T.S. Eliot famously declared that “April is the cruelest month.” Here is apart of that Poem…

April is the cruellest month, breeding
Lilacs out of the dead land, mixing
Memory and desire, stirring
Dull roots with spring rain.
Winter kept us warm, covering
Earth in forgetful snow, feeding
A little life with dried tubers.
Summer surprised us, coming over the Starnbergersee
With a shower of rain; we stopped in the colonnade,
And went on in sunlight, into the Hofgarten,
And drank coffee, and talked for an hour.
Bin gar keine Russin, stamm’ aus Litauen, echt deutsch.
And when we were children, staying at the arch-duke’s,
My cousin’s, he took me out on a sled,
And I was frightened. He said, Marie,
Marie, hold on tight. And down we went.
In the mountains, there you feel free.
I read, much of the night, and go south in the winter.
What are the roots that clutch, what branches grow
Out of this stony rubbish? Son of man,
You cannot say, or guess, for you know only
A heap of broken images, where the sun beats,
And the dead tree gives no shelter, the cricket no relief,
And the dry stone no sound of water. Only
There is shadow under this red rock,
(Come in under the shadow of this red rock),
And I will show you something different from either
Your shadow at morning striding behind you
Or your shadow at evening rising to meet you;
I will show you fear in a handful of dust.
“The Cruelest Month to Me”
Each year it creeps up faster
The older that I get
And always leaves me reflecting
On the good, the bad, and the times I do regret.

I think as I look forward
I need to make a plan
To take me away from this melancholy period
Before I slip, like dust does into sand…

The cruelest month to me you see
Is the month of March.
For it is the month of my birth
Which I like to celebrate, kind of fast.

#NaPoWriMo 2016 Challenge – Day 3

Day 3’s Challenge via the NaPoWriMo Website was to turn our vision outward and write a poem in the form of a “Fan letter” to a Celebrity

“My Fan Letter to Author Sylvain Reynard”

Dear Sylvain Reynard (aka SR),

You may know me via your social media sites.
I came across your first book 4 years ago now
And became so touched by the journey it took me on
I ended up doing some research on you,
And my world opened up to a huge arena…
Fan Fiction, Twitter, Goodreads, Pinterest, Facebook & Instagram
I’ve even met some of your other SRFans
When I travelled overseas recently.

With each new series you write though
I still get that same feeling from the first time
Where I’m left feeling touched
And in awe of your talent,
From the journey you take the reader on,
To how it makes one stop and think about things.

Through reading your books over these years
And the impact it has had on me
Here I am today writing this “Fan Letter Poem”
As apart of the “NaPoWriMo Challenge”
And I just wanted to say I think you are extraordinary,
Your gifts are not just mere words upon a page
They have a ripple effect
That reaches out and can change people too.

How grand it would be to meet you
And have a chat over a coffee n donut, or Scotch
Or better yet
Have the chance to meet at a SRFans Convention
With all your Fans from across the globe attending
‘Oh the fun that would be had…
They are an awesome unique bunch of people
And I truly thank-you for your magical touch!

One of many of your Aussie SRFans,

#NaPoWriMo 2016 Challenge – Day 2

Day 2’s Challenge via NaPoWriMo Website was to write a poem about a Family Portrait

A captured moment
Rare and never to be seen again
Evidence, that we were once bonded…

Off to the “Annual Ekka Show
As a family unit
Who seemed happy and carefree…

It appears in black n white,
That those bonds formed
Should remain strong forever…

But sadly overtime
Cracks shattered those foundations
Leaving a Mothers’ heart broken…

#NaPoWriMo 2016 Challenge – Day 1

Hello, well as usual I’m off to a late start in the NaPoWriMo (National Poetry Writing Month)…. but I am excited though to be apart of this Challenge again via the NaPoWriMo Website, as I learnt a lot last year and enjoyed it very much!

So Day 1 in the Challenge was to write a “Lune Poem“, which is a sort of English-language haiku. It’s a three-line poem with either a syllable count of 5-3-5 or a word count of 5-3-5.

My Lune piece is a word count, Happy reading!

Natures Sequence.

“Natures Sequence”

As the magical moon fades away from the night sky

I sit and wait patiently for my time to unfold.

So that I may bloom again with the dawn of a new day

Amidst the warmth of the sunlights ray’s.

This delicate dance of balance is “Natures Sequence”

A daily rebirth which inspires my soul.

At times in this life

I feel like I am an oblivious mess

Fading into the nothingness

An inconsequential entity

That is only just existing until my time here is done…

A voyeur

Watching as life passes by

A nothing

A no-one

An unimportant waste of space…

But these are just

Fleeting moments of feelings

That happen some days

When doubt rears its ugly head

Or your environment is affecting you strongly…

Like when the sky gets dark and grey

You know it won’t last forever

But it can change your mood, deeply

Then as the Sun comes back out to play & nature is smiling again

You realise that your  “Perspective” has lifted & breathe a sigh of  release!

#PoetryInMotion Challenge – 2016

– 2016 –

Deep in the valley of my emotions
I can get lost at times…
And become overwhelmed
By the magnitude of everyday life!

Which leaves me
Wandering aimlessly at times
Day in day out –
Just placing one foot in front of the other.

Until something penetrates
The wall of obscurity surrounding me
Pulling me out and
Back to the world of believing…

So here’s to the “New Year” – 2016
May it bring some dreams come true
Be filled with peace, love, laughter, hope & good friends!!!

🎉Cheers All 🍾🍷🍸🍹🍻  and
Thank-you for your inspiration xox
