#NaPoWriMo 2016 Challenge – Day 11

image

Day 11’s challenge via NaPoWriMo Website  was to write a poem a in which you closely describe an object or place, and then end with a much more abstract line that doesn’t seemingly have anything to do with that object or place, but which, of course, really does.

The “surprise” ending to this James Wright Poem could be used as a model for the effect, the NaPoWriMo Website hopes the Challengers can achieve. An abstract, philosophical kind of statement closing out a poem that is otherwise intensely focused on physical, sensory details.

Hope you enjoy my words… Happy reading!

“IRELAND”

Ensnared by the rolling beauty/ as he wanders
So rich and green are your lands/ the traveller states
Unique visions of quiet eloquence abound/ a country’s treasure
Yet history tells a grave tale/ which is hidden beneath an internal unrest of beliefs

#NaPoWriMo 2016 Challenge – Day 9

image

Day 9’s challenge via NaPoWriMo Website  was to write a poem that includes a line that you’re afraid to write.

This might be because it expresses something very personal that makes you uncomfortable – either because of its content (“I always hated grandma”), or because it seems too emotional or ugly or strange (“I love you so much I would eat a cockroach for you”). Or even because it sounds too boring or expected (“You know what? I like cooking noodles and going to bed at 7 p.m.”). But it should be something that you’re genuinely a little scared to say.

This was a hard Challenge… I’m also way behind <yikes> but still hope to finish the month by completing all the Challenges!!!

“Forever”

Today as I wander, in this life so far
I may not be anyone’s forever
Where you can share
All the sweet
Raw
Messy
Beautiful
Scary
And strong times, with another
But one day
Maybe in the next life
I still hope to find it…

#NaPoWriMo 2016 Challenge – Day 10

image

Day 10’s challenge via NaPoWriMo Website was to write a “book spine” poem!

This involves taking a look at your bookshelves, and writing down titles in order (or rearranging the titles) to create a poem.

A lot of my books are on Kindle so I created mine through a different means… Hope you enjoy reading my two efforts!

Todays challenge via NaPoWriMo Website is to write a poem about a Flower!

Hope you enjoy my interpretation … And happy weekend to you all!

“Flowers”

You are a unique & quiet life force

We humans rely upon

From a celebration, to a wish, to a token of love, or simply an inspiration

That we just want to smell & admire, before the day is gone.

*

But in the wind as you gentle sway

Spreading new life, across the earth

In a vital role for Mother Nature & creatures: forevermore

I sit in awe of just how extraordinary you are: dearest Flowers.

#NaPoWriMo 2016 Challenge – Day 7

Todays challenge via NaPoWriMo Website is to write a tritina poem!

The tritina is a shorter cousin to the sestina, involving three, three-line stanzas, and a final concluding line. Three “end words” are used to conclude the lines of each stanza, in a set pattern of ABC, CAB, BCA, and all three end words appear together in the final line.

This is my attempt at a Tritina Poem – Happy reading!

“Dearest Ocean”

When I need a release, you make me feel free
As soon as I walk along your sand, I just be
Breathing in and out, a calm comes over me

As I listen to your majestic rythym, silently within me
It washes away any troubles, til I’m free
And makes me feel ready again, to be

I can’t explain the magic that happens, just to be
But it’s more powerful than anything-else, for me
A gift I accept without too much wonder, to feel free

But I thank-you “Dearest Ocean” for how you make me feel – renewed, & Free to Be Me.

Hope you enjoy my choice… And happy reading!

COFFEE

You may not be a food of sorts
But you’re functionally important to me
You fuel me from morning till night
Just a cup or two or even three.

When I am out, just socialising
You’re always there to hold
Warming my hands, forever so gently
So I never feel cold and alone.

You come in many varieties
Of which I’ll try a few
Your so creamy and delicious
Coffee, I’m addicted to your brew!
