I found this picture on the Internet and thought it summed up perfectly the Motto behind this Challenge but we need a Superman one too!

My #IAB Story:

I hit puberty at a younger age than the majority of girls do… I remember being the first in my class to get pubic hair and boobs… I hated going to swimming and having to change in front of the others because they would look, stare and point at me as if there was something wrong with me… Boys would also stare at my boobs when doing any training for sports… And when I got my periods I thought I was dying and didn’t tell my mom for a few days… So at that young and tender age of eleven/ twelve I really started to hate my body and didn’t want to become a woman at all!

Over the years I was never what I’d classify as model thin but I was thin and curvy but had always thought of myself as fat… when I had my son at the age of 20 I became very unwell with my Under-active Thyroid (Hashimoto’s Disease) and went from 57 kilos to nearly 90 in my pregnancy… in which I got to experience how people do actually treat you differently when you become overweight… I experienced this from my sons father to certain family members and even some friends… I am now in my 40’s and I have never really got that extra weight off… which has held me back in life from pursuing certain things as I have always felt I’d be judged by others…

Anyways moving on as the years have flown by since then and with all the lessons you learn along the way… the good, the bad and the ugly… you learn to pick yourself up, dust yourself off and see life from a different perspective… especially in my job as a Nurse… time is precious… And people who like to sit in glass houses and judge others for their personal choices in life or by their beauty, scars and flaws… I have come to realise really have no idea about living life to the full and are missing out on special treasures because of their narrow-mindedness!

“So my motto is to embrace myself, people, life and living”

~~~
My #IAB Poem:
I am flawed
I am not perfect
But I am coming to accept me for who I am…
For it is not what I perceive to be perfect
That wakes up everyday
To face the world in which I live…
Who tries to lends a hand to others
Especially the sick and thoughs in need of care
Through my job…
It is the “I AM BEAUTIFUL” me
Just as I am
With my imperfections…
And that is perfectly alright!
I’m Not Perfect Campaign by Tammy L Wilkins
image
A wonderful young lady that I have got to know over the past few years online, Tammy – Louise Wilkins, is running this great campaign via her Blog, Facebook and Twitter accounts… and she has asked a group of us to participate!
For more information check out her Blog Post http://t.co/2XwwhlKJq4
~~~~~

Definition of Perfect:
adj. Having all the required or desirable elements, qualities, or characteristics; as good as it is possible to be….

~~~~~
image
My Words:
Hmmm I am so far from this definition…. and I am imperfect in so many ways!
As time is flying by faster each year and the body is changing rapidly as I head for the next big milestone age of 50, in not so many years to come… I am by no means perfect and never have been… I have always hated my body and at times my self quite a lot… I have been over-weight since my 20’s, suffered from depression and have been hurt a lot in life both emotionally and physically… People can let you down and we can let ourselves down too… but the one thing I’ve learnt through all my lessons so far is that we can’t control others, we can only control ourselves…
In my line of work though I have come across some amazing people who are facing much tougher roads… and some are much younger than me… SO I am learning as I get older to just try and let go and live each day as best I can because who knows how long we have to enjoy it!?!
And when Tammy asked if I would like to take part in this Campaign of “Embracing the Imperfections we behold” I was happy to… as it is a great idea to stop, breathe and try to appreciate ourselves for exactly who we are… Imperfections and all😉
I also came across this beautiful Poem 20 years ago I would like to share with you all…
Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even the dull and ignorant; they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit.
If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain and bitter;
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
Keep interested in your career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
Exercise caution in your business affairs; for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals; and everywhere life is full of heroism.
Be yourself. Especially, do not feign affection. Neither be critical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is as perennial as the grass.
Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness. Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself.
You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.
Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be,
and whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.
With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be careful. Strive to be happy.
Words on Charity Awareness…
image
“No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted. – Aesop”
*
“No act of kindness is too small. The gift of kindness may start as a small ripple that over time can turn into a tidal wave affecting the lives of many. – Kevin Heath, Ceo More4kids”
Recently through my love of reading I have come across some wonderful Humanitarians who support and promote Charity Awareness daily…which I have found very inspiring!
image
In my line of work as a Nurse I support and am involved in a lot of “Charity Fund Raising Events” –  I get to see both sides of the coin for a lot of Charity Organisations and Causes – such as National Heart Foundation of Australia, Starlight Children’s Foundations Australia, Make-A-Wish Foundation, Cancer Council Australia, NBCF Australia, World Vision, Guide Dogs Association, Life Line, Beyond Blue, Meals on Wheels, Red Cross, Salvation Army, Diabetes Australia, MS Society…and the list goes on!
*
I work in all areas of the Hospital mainly with the older generation covering Delirium and Dementia but I also work in Medical, Surgical, Orthopedic, Childrens, GEM, Extended Care, Palliative Care, Rehab and Mental Health Wards.
# Some Organisations that have really touched my heart & why?
A few years back I was working with a girl who had just moved up to Queensland from Sydney, and she hadn’t any friends or family to turn to for support…Long story cut short…her nearly 15 yr old son had to have a Heart Transplant and was admitted into the Hospital that I worked in, where he stayed for just over 8 months awaiting a Heart Transplant!!! My son was nearly the same age and my heart went out to him, the courage this young man showed was incredible and I was apart of his journey daily over this time and we all became very close! A year after he had received his New Heart they invited me to attended a ceremony for Donor and Receiver Families….all I can say is it will be etched in my memory forever, it was a very emotional experience!
*
In Daniel’s 8 month time in Hospital I got to see and experience how these Organisations work – Organ & Tissue Donation, Heart Foundation, Make-A-Wish & Starlight Children’s Foundation, and how they make a real difference and I can’t praise them enough, they are I just incredible!
# Organ Donation:
  • Most Australians support organ and tissue donation…
  • This wish to help others becomes a reality if Australians learn about organ and tissue donation and make the decision to become a donor. Families also need to know the wishes of the potential donor. This means discussing, understanding and accepting each family member’s decision. If families are aware of their deceased loved one’s decision about organ and tissue donation, they are more likely to give consent for donation.
  • Even if you are registered as an organ donor, your family will still be asked to confirm your wishes and give their consent. It’s important that they know your wishes.
# National Heart Foundation of Australia:
  • The Heart Foundation saves lives and improves health through funding world-class cardiovascular research, guidelines for health professionals, informing the public and assisting people with cardiovascular disease.
  • While our work over the past five decades has helped reduce the number of deaths, cardiovascular disease (heart, stroke and blood vessel disease) remains one of Australia’s most devastating health problems.
~@~
image
# Make-A-Wish Australia:
  • Grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy.
~@~
image# Starlight Children’s Foundation Australia:
  • Starlight provides programs integral to the total care of seriously ill children – while health professionals focus on treating the illness, Starlight is there to lift the spirits of the child, giving them the opportunity to laugh, play and be a child again
  • Two decades of children’s laughter: Since being formed as an Australian children’s charity in 1988, the Starlight Children’s Foundation has brightened the lives of seriously ill and hospitalised children, and their families, throughout Australia.
  • About Starlight: Living with illness or injury can cause enormous strain in the lives of children and their families. The pain, loneliness and isolation that sick children feel dominates their lives, and they often miss out on normal experiences that healthy children take for granted.
When my son was in High School they became apart of this Community Organisation called Rosie’s Street Van, where a group of lads would go with a teacher and some parents along with the Van on certain nights into the City CBD and it was a real eye opener for us!
*
There was one particular story of a young girl the same age as my son at the time and she was sleeping on a mattress at the Beachside near his school because she had been kicked out of her home…and she got to school everyday she told them as she wanted to succeed in her life! Wonderfully they were able to help this girl find a safer home and helped her to finish her High School!!!
# Rosie’s Street Van:
  • Rosies aims to provide something intangible, we offer a range of services to our patrons, all with the aim of creating a sense of ‘home’ in different places. We aim to be present with people, offering them times of unconditional belonging.
  • Rosies’ most visible outreach is our street van. We operate street vans which offer tea, coffee, Milo and a friendly ear in all our locations: Brisbane, the Gold Coast, the Sunshine Coast, Caboolture, Logan/Beenleigh, Cairns, and Warwick. Most of our volunteers work with the street van, spending time with people who are homeless and often also houseless.
  • Rosies mission is to offer times of presence with others through street outreach, children’s and drug court support, youth detention visitation, and prison outreach.
I love Animals ….they give unconditional love and I think we Humans have a lot to learn from them!
RSPCA:
  • The RSPCA is a community based charity that works to prevent cruelty to animals by actively promoting their care and protection.
  • RSPCA Australia is a Federation of eight independent State and Territory RSPCA bodies called member Societies. RSPCA member Societies do much of the hands on work traditionally associated with the RSPCA such as the operation of shelters and the Inspectorate plus community education and fundraising.
  • RSPCA Australia is home to a strong science and campaigns team, with a particular focus on farm animal issues. RSPCA Australia is responsible for facilitating national campaigns and events and representing the interests of animal welfare with Government and industry across all areas.
A Lion, A Tiger & A Bear….Oh My!
As cubs a lion, a tiger and a bear had been owned by a drug dealer who did not properly care for them! The bear’s harness grew into his skin because the owner did not alter it as the animal grew. They had been abused and neglected early in life, but were finally rescued. The bear’s harness had to be surgically removed.
*
After they had been taken in by an animal sanctuary in Georgia, USA, the staff tried to separate them due to obvious concerns that the three large predators would fight. During that trial of separation, the animals were uncooperative and behaved poorly. Once reunited, the three calmed down and were well behaved.
*
Twelve years later, the three friends spend their days playing, cuddling and eating together. There are no plans to separate these lifelong friends!
