Day 11’s challenge via NaPoWriMo Website was to write a poem a in which you closely describe an object or place, and then end with a much more abstract line that doesn’t seemingly have anything to do with that object or place, but which, of course, really does.
The “surprise” ending to this James Wright Poem could be used as a model for the effect, the NaPoWriMo Website hopes the Challengers can achieve. An abstract, philosophical kind of statement closing out a poem that is otherwise intensely focused on physical, sensory details.
Hope you enjoy my words… Happy reading!
Ensnared by the rolling beauty/ as he wanders
So rich and green are your lands/ the traveller states
Unique visions of quiet eloquence abound/ a country’s treasure
Yet history tells a grave tale/ which is hidden beneath an internal unrest of beliefs
