Day 19 in the #NaPoWriMo Challenge

Day 19’s optional prompt, to write a landay. Landays are 22-syllable couplets, generally rhyming. The form comes from Afghanistan, where women often use it in verses that range from the sly and humorous to the deeply sardonic and melancholy~ via The NaPoWriMo Website

So with “Day 19’s Prompt” I have chosen a Poem & Picture from “The Poetry Foundation Website” – Landays: Poetry of Afghan Women, then after that is a Poem I have recently written but it is not in the form with todays prompt in the Challenge!

Happy reading and hope you all enjoy!

Your eyes aren’t eyes. They’re bees.
I can find no cure for their sting.
Is there not one man here brave enough to see
how my untouched thighs burn the trousers off me?
For God’s sake, I’ll give you a kiss.
Stop shaking my pitcher and wetting my dress!
I’ll kiss you in the pomegranate garden. Hush!
People will think a goat’s stuck in the underbrush.
Come, let’s lie thigh against thigh.
If you climb on top, I won’t cry.
Ouch! Don’t squeeze me so tight:
My breasts burn from becoming a woman last night.
Bright moon, for the love of God,
Don’t blind two lovers with such naked light.
Will there ever come a day
When our planets people
Can all live in peace?
Will there ever come a day
When people can learn to value Diversity
And just get along?
Will there ever come a day
When we can just simply respect and accept
Each others points of view or ideals?
Sadly I don’t think it ever will
As the casualties of war
Are everywhere throughout this planet…
Look around you,
In your workplace,
In your town,
Open your eyes and ears…
If we can’t make it happen in our own backyards
How are we ever going to stop from escalating to another World War!?!
