#PicturePromptChallenge by May Desert Flower

As a child she was shy

Often alone she’d quietly cry

Many came into her life

So many too soon said goodbye…

She kept their memories and their stories

Some faint, almost forgotten with age

Others etched deeply into her heart

First came her grandmother

The one she ran to when at night

She woke up scared to vivid images

Of ghostly shapes circling in sight.

She told her stories, endless tales

To everyone she would say

“You tease her now for being shy

But you’ll see…she is bright! She will shine!”

Years gone by had kept her shy

Kept her loving sensitive heart

Protected inside her shell,

A world of dreams her safety net

Reminiscent of childhood play,

Hidden in tree branches, and over hills.

Then out of nowhere came a friend

Who told her of a magical world outside…

“Under a canopy of stars

When clouds part slowly to a full moon,

In the stillness of the night,

The earth comes alive,

Bathed in a wondrous light.

If you listen closely, listen silently

You’ll hear the wisdom of ancient trees.

They speak of secrets older than time…

Follow your heart, they will say…

You seek love but seek no more!

This love is you! It’s inside your heart!

It will shine a path for you,

Lead you when you feel lost!

When the walls are closing in,

Don’t be scared! Don’t despair!

The light of love will guide you through,

You’ll find a hidden door always!”

With no one left there who understands

Will she dare finally take a glance?

Slide open these curtains keeping her out of sight?

Stare into the world and take a chance?

Take a leap of faith into life once again?

  1. It’s the second time I read your poem and it’s even better at the second read.
You crafted a precious moment in our lives, I can say ‘our’ because I sensed it as a universal feeling, at least for the ones lucky enough to have had such wonderful elders near them. So precious. I loved it. Thank you. 💕💕💕💕💕💕

PS: (thanks Angel for the smiley I copy pasted just from above message).

    • The first part is actually almost entirely true 🙂
And yes even if she wasn’t there for a long time (grandma passed away when I was 10) it was wonderful to have her 🙂
      ❤ ❤
