My Review of “The Cougar Diaries Trilogy”by Aoife Brennan

# Is a truly brilliant and inspiring must read!

My Review:

I have just finished reading ”The Cougar Diaries: The Prequel and Parts I & II’ and wish I didn’t have to wait so long for ‘Part III’ to find out what happens next! The books are accounts of real life with Fiction thrown into the mix!

I have absolutely loved reading these books …as I can totally relate! They are witty and hilarious in parts; hot, sexy and informative in others, and then very real, serious and inspiring in the other parts…. but what I have loved the most has been how relatable, real life and truthful they are!

These books tell you about the journey that an Irish woman, called Aoife Brennan, goes through after the breakdown of her marriage! She is in her early forties and has been separated from her husband Paul for 5 years – since he had an affair and moved in with the girlfriend, leaving Aoife to raise their two teenage boys on her own, and he has now decided he wants a divorce so he can re-marry the girlfriend, who is now pregnant!

As Aoife struggles to cope with all of this, her father falls ill and she is also trying to hold down a full-time job – with the worry of being made redundant and the possibility of loosing the family home …due to the hard times Ireland is going through with the recent recession and new laws that have been put in place with the Banks! Within this period in her life she also heads back out into the dating scene and provides the reader with a very honest, entertaining and educational account of her personal experiences along this journey – how after divorce some married friends now look at and treat you differently; the difficulties in dating as a single mom; her account of exploring dating sites (with some hilarious results, “Strawberrygate” is a lol must read); problems faced when trying to use a vibrator at home with your children close by; her adventures in the world of BDSM and Erotica and how she meets and ends up dating a younger man called Chris, (whom she calls ‘sex-god’), and the difficulties she faces with falling in love again and the expectations that can go along with that!

What stays with me is through these books is that in the face of adversity this incredible woman and mother doesn’t give up… she just keeps putting one foot in front of the other, which is truly inspiring! What also stood out to me was the importance of having people there for you in your life …that no matter what happens, how you need people as sounding boards and ready to help if they can… as it really helps to clear your head and gives you the strength cope!

I love this Authors writing style immensely and thoroughly look forward to reading more of her works! And wish her all the best in life!

I am 42 years of age single mother and I live with my two teenage boys in Dublin. This is a small city so I am keeping my face out of the way of the camera.

I am the author of “The Cougar Diaries, The Prequel, Part I & II – Part III” is coming very soon. I hope my books bring a smile to your face and a spring to your step.

I started off writing a non fiction book about divorce which suddenly segued into fiction – so I took all I knew about dating again and fictionalised it. What a hoot! I am the author of my own destiny now – I am writing the ending. So I can lead my main character through the valley of death, despair and trouble, but I am giving her a fabulous ending! Oh the power of the pen!

So, when possessions depart – and bravery enters by the main door – then it is time to write!

As Vivienne will learn, Mikah is more than he seems, and for reasons unknown, he’s determined to be her knight in shining armor. But after having finally found her own two feet after years of abuse,  it’s difficult for her to accept Mikah’s help.

My Review:

“Give Me Reason” is a bit of an emotional roller coaster ride….with twists and turns along the way, but it captivated me from the first page and I couldn’t put it down! And it leaves you wanting and needing the next book ASAP!!!

It tells the tale of a resilient young woman called Vivienne Callahan who is working in a diner as a low paid waitress, trying to survive life all on her own in very poor conditions whilst secretly carrying a baby! She has had a rough life to say the least – after surviving her childhood growing up with a mother who was an alcoholic & drug addict, she is then nearly beaten to death by her ex-boyfriend, Riley, when she tries to inform him she’s pregnant! Then one day at work out of the blue enters a tall, dark, well dressed and good looking young man called Mikah Blake – who is rich, successful and owns his own company. From the moment they meet each other they both experience an over-powering reaction…. From that moment on Mikah tries his utmost to get to know, help and care for Vivienne but she is naturally distrusting of him and with her situation in life pushes him away but he continues from a distance! The story ends with the ex-boyfriend Riley getting out of jail and finding Vivienne….what a cliff hanger … Bring on the 19th Nov. 2013 for the next book in this series, “Give me Hope“, to find out what happens!!!

Hats off to the Author Zoey Derrick for producing such an unforgettable and well written novel, it is an impressive must read!

The Disintegration of the Persistence of Memory by Salvador Dali

Salvador Dali was well known as a surrealist painter- often times waking up in the middle of the night to paint what he saw in his dreams. Rumor has it that he ate some soft cheese right before bed and that’s what inspired the melting clocks.

“Dali sometimes referred to his paintings as “hand-painted dream photographs” and The Persistence of Memory can certainly be characterized as such.The drooping pocketwatches possibly suggest the irrelevance of time during sleep. In other words, when we are asleep, or not conscious, the time does not persist, only memories do. This distortion of time can be easily observed by just about anyone who ever attempted to think about their own dreams.Some art historians theorize that the painting may be a visual depiction of the idea behind the Einstein’s theory of relativity: that time itself is relative and not fixed. But that’s quite possibly a shot in the dark. The painting’s meaning strongly suggests psychoanalytical values, those to do with the research of Sigmund Freud. Dali himself hasn’t shown much interest in painting from science until after World War II, when the Hiroshima atomic bomb made an impression on him and began nuclear (or ‘atomic’) period of his work, in which the painter focused on adding elements to his paintings that suggested atomic composition of what is known as matter. This can be further acknolwdged by another painting Dali painted later in his life called The Disintegration of The Persistence of Memory (oil on canvas, c. 1952 to 1954), where he literally takes the contents of this painting apart suggesting the end of the importance of psychoanalysis, which is replaced by the knowledge of subatomic particles, a concept that supersedes psychology as a higher form of existence.”

Dreaming

As the sun is setting gracefully
I breathe in the fresh salty air
Finding peace within the quietness
And the stillness that is everywhere

As I find my solace
Drifting along the shore
My mind starts to wander
Bringing recollections to the fore

Dream-like moments surface
Bobbing throughout my mind
Recalling sweet sensations
That were utterly devine

~~~

Your body is so hard
Within my warm embrace
Worshipping me ravishingly
With such devotion upon your face

But as the day disappears
And night has shown it’s face
I am awoken back to reality
Feeling nothing but only space

It is then within this moment
I foolishly realise
That I was only dreaming
And so sadly say my goodbyes!

Lovers can be found
The beauty of our minds are released

The journey is so appealing
The anticipation addictive
Yearning to explore and find
All the connections that we seek

The world seems so vast
When you physically think about it…
Yet through this portal in time
This journey is not so hard to complete!

I saw the moon rise last night
and thought of you
during my walk alone along the surf
In my mind’s eye
I see you
I whisper words to you
Words that drift
carried on the wind
and by the tides
through the day and night
They cross space and time
whispered words
written words
words of comfort
words of support
words with meaning and knowing
They are the strength of a thousand miles
They sooth your soul
They comfort you in their embrace
They bring you hope
these words across the oceans

My back now turns away
from the rising sun
looking, searching
reaching out for you
Distance is long
and time is short
An ocean apart
Too far!
Longing
Too much!
Fate guides my way
I carry on in hopes
of expressing my love
with poetry
in precious words
in whispered words
in words across the oceans

A friendship growing
A love in knowing
I smile now
for you are in my heart
as I am in yours
This is but the start
of two people
with only hearts to give
A relationship built on trust
and holding each other’s hands
Strong and true
How do we express our love
when mere words aren’t enough?
We say “I love you”
in so many ways
each and every day
without ever saying a word

“Words Across The Oceans”

Words across the ocean

Are but blips of electricity.

Messages from outer space.

Lines of synchronicity.

Telepathic murmurings

Clairvoyance tuning in

Today’s modern communication

Ethereal din

A cacophony of static electrification

Sound waves are what it’s all about

Technology aids this integration

Or else we’d all have to learn to shout.

But at the end of the day it’s not the how that really matters

It’s the content that’s the important thing.

Words across the ocean can be much more than that

If love to each other they bring.

Lover of the Light

The mouth-wateringly rousing words you utter
Oh how they make my heart shamelessly flutter

Soft caress of your fingertips upon my skin
Secure in your tender hold, love and lust akin

Just for this fleeting moment, you are only mine
Want, need and longing combined, our bodies gently entwine
I come undone by the three words you whisper once more
Eliciting such an intense emotion I’ve never experienced before

You’re my fiery, passionate ball of light
Whether in the distance or right before my doe-eyed sight
Your glistening flame continues to melt my carefully carved walls
Crafted to protect myself yet you insist on making me fall

You kiss with deep meaning and sensual delight
Steal shy glances my way each and every night
Touch with warmth and adoration created to rock my core
Slowly but surely, this is how you’ve made me yours

And yet, after all this time, my heart still flutters
By the same three words you so gloriously utter

Though now so far away, you express such strong devotion
For your love is still present through words across the oceans
